Ingredients

  • The Bread A fresh French Baguette is classic for crunch. For a softer bite, use Ciabatta or an Italian Loaf. Avoid thin sliced sandwich bread.
  • Unsalted Butter Softened to room temperature. This allows us to control the salt level perfectly.
  • Fresh Garlic Use 4-6 fresh cloves. Pro Tip: Grate them with a microplane for a smooth paste so no one bites into a raw chunk.
  • Fresh Parsley Flat-leaf parsley adds brightness and color.
  • Parmesan Cheese Freshly grated Parmesan adds a nutty, savory "umami" kick.
  • Seasoning Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

Method

  1. Step 1: Make the Compound Butter
In a small bowl, mash the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt together until fully combined. You want a smooth, spreadable paste.
  2. Step 2: Prep the Bread
Slice your baguette in half lengthwise (horizontally) so you have two long boats.
  3. Step 3: Slather Generously
Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Make sure you get all the way to the edges of the crust—those buttery, crispy edges are the best part! sprinkle Parmesan on top if using.
  4. Step 4: The Bake
    Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes.
    For Crispy Bread: Bake uncovered.
For Soft Bread: Wrap in foil.
Golden Finish: Broil for the last 1-2 minutes for extra color.
