Ingredients

Sandwiches
  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened, divided
  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar grated
  • 1 crisp apple thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme optional
  • 1 pinch flaky salt

Method

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Place two slices butter side down. Layer cheese, apple slices, thyme and honey, then more cheese.
  3. Top with remaining bread, butter side up. Cover and cook 3 to 4 minutes until golden.
  4. Flip and cook another 3 to 4 minutes until the cheese melts.
  5. Rest one minute, sprinkle with flaky salt, slice and serve.

Notes

Grate your own cheese for the smoothest melt. Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer.
